Examples of Explanatory Texts and Their Structures (Natural, Social, Cultural)

Example explanation text in the previous article does not represent the actual state of the explanatory text. Therefore, here are some examples of explanatory texts ranging from explanatory texts of social phenomena, natural phenomena to explanations of Sundanese traditional ceremonial culture.

Example of Social Explanation Text

The Cause of Hoax News

Phenomenon Identification (General Statements)

Hoax news is a social phenomenon that is already at an alarming stage. Hoax news or fake news is news that spreads untrue information. How can this phenomenon occur and spread so quickly? Here is the explanation.

The sequence of Events (Explanatory Sequence)

Hoaxes are triggered by the speed of information flow which is increasingly unstoppable in this industrial revolution 4.0 this. Information can easily reach the audience through applications such as social media. Now its spread is also not limited by user mobility because of the unlimited connectivity offered by smartphones or smartphones. So that information can be obtained anytime, anywhere quickly, directly in the audience's hands.

This causes information saturation. This means that information begins to lose interest or becomes boring due to too much of it being available. Not to mention that today it is very easy to spread information even for individuals who do not actually have the competence to write news texts. This results in too many choices but very few meaningful choices for the audience.

In the end, only the most contrasting narratives are able to provide an interesting read or tap. Contrasting content varies; it can be in the form of funny pictures, interesting stories, touching stories, to controversial topics. Controversial topics that are astonishingly and almost impossible to happen are the topics that get the most attention. Why? Because many netizens were provoked to spread it and caused a chain reaction caused by the astonishment of the people who shared the news.

Therefore, many people take advantage of this phenomenon for personal gain. One of the most common motives is writing hoax news. News that is actually not true but from the title alone has provoked our fingers to tap or click on it. Then there was a phenomenon of spreading hoax news by irresponsible parties to gain temporary fame to abundant visits, which would also provide abundant income but harm many people.

Review (Interpretation)

As virtuous citizens, we should be wiser in receiving information. Always cross-check the news we read, don't randomly spread information, and choose a trusted news channel. Ignore controversial news, especially those that are only spread through social media. After all, advances in information technology are advantages that can provide enormous benefits. Actually, there are many other ways that can be taken to get the attention of netizens. We have to fight through creativity that also has a positive impact on the readers, not even competing to fool others.

Example of Explanation Text for Natural Phenomena (Flood Disaster)

Next, an example of a brief explanatory text in the form of a natural phenomenon or natural flood disaster will be presented, specifically banjir bandang in the pattern of composing causality or cause and effect.

Flash Flood Disaster Occurs

A Flash flood or flood is a big flood that comes suddenly. This flood will inundate until it flows fast so that it can wash away large objects such as wood and even cars around the flooded area.

The sequence of Events (Explanatory Sequence)

Flash floods occur suddenly in low-lying areas due to continuous rain. This flood occurs when the addition of water discharge to the soil in the area takes place so quickly that it can no longer be absorbed.

But not the heavy rain that never stops is the reason. The causes are very diverse, including the covering of land areas by floors, asphalt, and houses built around them. In short, a development that does not pay attention to the balance of nature can also be the cause.

The stagnant water then collects in areas with low surfaces and flows quickly to lower areas. As a result, all kinds of objects in its path were suddenly surrounded by water. Flash floods can cause huge losses.

Review

Overcoming flooding is something that must be done, but preventing it is an obligation that must be done. The reason for flash floods that most often occurs is the result of overflowing river water, which is no longer able to flow quickly because it is blocked by garbage. So let's be disciplined not to throw garbage into the river.

Example of Cultural Explanation Text

The following is an example of an explanatory text of a traditional ceremony culture carried out in a Sundanese traditional wedding.

Sundanese Traditional Ceremony Wedding Procession

Phenomenon Identification (General Statements)

Every cultural tribe in Indonesia, including the Sundanese, has its own culture and customs of the wedding procession that is different from other tribes. The procession is a series of ceremonial activities that have various symbols of goodness for the bride and groom. Then how is the traditional Sundanese wedding procession culture carried out? Here is a series of explanations.

The sequence of Events (Explanatory Sequence)

The first procession carried out is the pick-up of the groom by the bride's family. This procession is, of course, carried out because the host of the Sundanese traditional wedding is indeed a woman. This procession is also a form of respect for the groom by picking him up and welcoming him, in contrast to guests who are only waiting for his presence.

Arriving at the wedding venue, the groom-to-be was greeted by the mother of the bride-to-be by draping a jasmine flower around her neck. Then, the bride and groom walked to the aisle while accompanied and flanked by both parents.

Furthermore, the marriage contract is carried out to formalize the relationship between the two brides. Both by custom, law/state, and of course, religion.

After the marriage contract is carried out, the bride and groom make sungkeman to their parents. This is done to apologize for various mistakes and symbols of separation because the bride and groom will leave their parents' house and start a new family with their partner.

After the sungkeman, the traditional ceremony begins with saweran. Namely, throwing coins, rice, turmeric, to sweets at the bride and groom under an umbrella. Sawan is accompanied by advice accompanied by kidung, and guests can fight over the scattered coins. Coins and rice symbolize prosperity. Meanwhile, turmeric is a symbol of success. At the same time, the candy symbolizes the sweetness of married life.

The procession is continued with the Museum Harupat ceremony or burning the harupat stems by the groom. After burning, the harupat stick is put into a jug filled with water which is held by the bride to be lifted again after it is extinguished and broken and then thrown away. This procession means that the bride and groom are expected to always solve household problems by working together. The bride holding a jug of water symbolizes the role of the wife to cool the problems that weigh on the husband's heart and mind.

The next ceremony is Nincak Endog, or stepping on eggs. The groom steps on the egg until it breaks, then the wife will clean the husband's feet. The symbol is clear that when the husband has a problem, the wife will help solve it.

Then it is the turn of the parents to carry out the ceremony, namely the ngaleupas japati ritual or releasing the pigeons. The symbol means the release of parental responsibility for the bride and groom who will start their own family.

Then the ceremony was taken over by the bride and groom with the Muka Panto custom, which means open the door. The ritual begins with the groom knocking on the door three times, then the rhymes from outside and inside the house are answered.

In the end, the bride and groom returned to sitting on the aisle while carrying out the Huap Scope ceremony, which was carried out by feeding the bride and groom by both pairs of parents. This procession symbolizes that there is no difference between affection for children and in-laws.

The last last procession was Pabetot Bakak Hayam. The bride and groom tug each other's grilled chicken, and the one who manages to get a bigger share must share it with his partner. This procession means that the sustenance obtained by the wife or husband must be enjoyed together.

Review

The traditional wedding ceremony is a culture that deserves to be preserved by us. Preserving it is not just by implementing it, especially if we are not descendants of the Sundanese. However, keeping it can mean appreciating it seriously and learning its positive symbols as well.
